PreBorn!

Website

Transparency and Credentials — The 2024 annual report shows strong program spending, and MinistryWatch gives them very high marks.

Impact — 67,556 babies saved in 2024, plus nearly 9,000 commitments to Christ

Controversy/ Debates — People criticize PreBorn!’s evangelism-to-medical-support ratio. From a secular perspective, it may seem off-putting, but as Christians, we understand that both are necessary. There are also questions about how the pregnancy resource clinics, in partnership with PreBorn! operate more broadly (which PreBorn! addresses on its website). Finally, there are debates around the rapid growth of the organization, whether the company uses too much funding on marketing with a focus more on growth rather than mission. Overall, the few question marks people have seem very secular or minuscule, and there are no reports of major fraud or controversy. Your money will go to saving lives and souls.

CEO — Dan Steiner, author of “Hearing Jesus Say, ‘Well Done’”, before PreBorn!, Dan Steiner worked as an executive at a trucking company, then as an executive at a pregnancy help center. From there, God led him to build PreBorn!

Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ)

Website

Main Controversies — Cru created programs that appealed to secular social justice issues rather than the main mission of focusing on Christ. The ideologies they embraced included transgender and same-sex attraction affirmation, pronoun “hospitality”, and critical race theory, to name a few. These programs are no longer running within the organization after facing much backlash from donors and employees.

Financial Transparency — Cru is not obligated to file certain tax documents, which leaves ambiguity about executive pay, donor clarity, and program spending. Cru does publish annual reports and claims detailed audits.

Overall — There is no evidence of any fraud at Cru. Cru is in the lion’s den as a campus organization that stands against the majority of the doctrine students are taught on a day-to-day basis. I imagine it would be difficult in that environment to stand against the culture and have grace for missteps in navigating that would likely do more for this organization than grasping for our pitchforks.

President — David Robbins (as of 2024) succeeded by Steve Sellers. David started as a staff member with Cru in 2000. He then moved on to evangelize in metro areas with his wife, and before moving to Cru’s presidency, he was the CEO of an organization called FamilyLife, which focuses on marriage, children, and family discipleship.

St. Jude

St. Jude was founded in the 60’s by entertainer Danny Thomas. The main mission of St. Jude is to aid children with cancer. Every child who receives treatment does not receive a bill of any kind, so families can focus completely on healing.

There are no reports of official legal misconduct or fraud. The main concern people have is regarding a surplus of funds to the tune of $ billions in reserves. This has led to discussion about whether or not they could be funding more patients.

Dr. James R. Downing has been the current CEO of St. Jude since 2014. Prior to being the CEO, Dr. Downing had worked at St. Jude for about thirty years.
